Ema Champignon Giebels GmbH & Co is the mushroom farm in Germany, doing just brown champignon mushrooms and filling 5 rooms each week. It is situated not far from the Dutch border. The farm belongs to RPZ Rheinische Pilz-Zentrale GmbH – large German family owned comany, suppling mushrooms worldwide. Ema employs 40 people and has a Dutch grower Wim Janssen who showed UMDIS around the farm. We visited this farm in November 2023.

As UMDIS`s friends in China told us previously – to the 16-18th of November 2022 were scheduled Chinese Mushroom Days. But during the press conference of COVID-19 prevention and control due to the epidemic situation Zhangzhou Municipal Government finally did not allow to organize the fair 12th Agricultural Expo & 22nd Flower Expo. On 25-27th of September UMDIS Mushroom Information Agency was the guest speaker from Europe during 63rd Mushroom Short Course. Nearly 200 people from the industry gathered there. The event took place in a beautiful venue hotel Mendenhall Inn in Kennet Square. This village is known for every mushroom grower – it is situated in Pennsylvania, 2.5 hours drive from New York – and near 60% of American mushrooms are grown here. The number of farms is estimated as 50 or so. So that is a perfect place for this event.

Eco-friendly mushroom farm. UMDIS visited Wierzbno in Poland and spoke with the owners Jachimowicz family

Wierzbno mushroom farm is one of the most modern in Poland. The owners are the members of Jachimowicz family. The first facility – of Miroslav who is the father of the family – has 30 growing rooms by 540 m2 each. It was started in 2003. The second facility – of his daughter Natalia – has another 30 rooms of 580 m2, it was built in 2013. Wierzbno farm employs about 200 workers. 25 tons of white button mushrooms are produced per day here. Six-week cycle is applied.
