A new generation Tunnelfilling Cassette – what does it mean?

How to choose your substrate supplier for shiitake?

In Poland and Europe, shiitake is produced on two types of substrate, which differ not only by the country of origin – but also by the characteristics of the mushrooms that are produced on them. Shiitake in Europe are produced on European and Chinese substrates. In Spain, 60-80% of shiitake is produced on Chinese substrate. Because in Spain, ordinary people appreciate the quality of mushrooms. However, in the whole of Europe, for example in the Netherlands or Belgium, only 5-10% of shiitake is produced on Chinese logs.

Why there are lots of strains and how they appeared? A brief history of commercial mycelium

The fact that it is possible to copy mushroom strains without respecting the rights of their creators has inhibited the breeding of new mushroom strains for many years. In previous years, a number of attempts were made to protect the ownership rights of new strains without success. Only Amycel took up the challenge of protecting its original strains. This mainly applies to the Heilroom brown strain with quite a large effect. Work on the development of their strains was undertaken in France by Euromycel E-58 Premium and in Poland by Spyra F 1 GP.

How Spanish mushroom production will overcome this issue?

Spain is the 3rd largest European mushroom producer. Spanish mushroom farms are worried that drought that affect areas of practically all of Spain causes critical reduce of straw quantity. As UMDIS was told during our visit in Spain in the end of April, straw prices very much complicate the viability of mushroom cultivation. The largest player of Spanish mushroom market – cooperative Champinter – admits that the situation is really bad. Agaris started to produce BIO compost

Last week, the producer of the Agaris plant announced that it had started to produce BIO compost. “We are the first in Poland to offer a substrate for the cultivation of mushrooms with an ecological certificate. The certificate was issued by Bioekspert, the official certification body for organic farming in Poland,” the press release states. The organic substrate is produced at the plant in Wola Makowska. Agaris composting plants points out that the company actively helps its clients in obtaining certificates for mushrooms grown on organic substrate. Already 4 clients have obtained such a document.

How to grow organic mushrooms on the market that does not need them? Video interview with the farm

In this interview, Valentin Popa, the owner of a bio-mushroom farm in Romania, talks about his farm and the challenges of growing organic mushrooms in Romania in interview with Maksym Yenchenko. He started the farm in 2015 after accessing EU funds and presented the project to the EU commission for funding. It took him almost four years to complete the project, and the farm has been operational for around three years. Valentin notes that the market for bio-mushrooms is not significant in Romania, and the farm is currently losing money. However, they hope to turn things around by exporting to bigger and wealthier markets. Valentin explains that they only grow bio oyster mushrooms and that the legislation in Romania does not permit growing conventional mushrooms in the same place as bio-mushrooms. The farm grows mushrooms organically without using chemicals, and Valentin notes that their compost is organic, and they conduct regular analysis on each tunnel and harvest. Despite the challenges, Valentin remains optimistic about the future of the farm.

Adrian Golovatei is one of the most cheerful and smiley mushroom producer that we ever have met. He is the owner of the mushroom farm Ciupercaria Golo near Mures, Romania. “Ciupercaria” means «mushroom» in Romanian, and “Golo” is the beginning of Adrian`s surname. The farm grows white button mushrooms and oyster mushrooms. Why Hajduk compost plant and mushroom farm in Poland are so unique

Hajduk company is one of the most prominent mushroom compost producers in Poland. And one of very few, that produces Phase 4 compost. Company History starts more than 30 years ago. In 1989 company was established and started to produce compost for mushrooms Phase I. In the nineties was the start of production of Phase II – pasteurized compost. Then followed Phase III – compost overgrown by mushroom spawn. After the year 2000 company build a new mushroom farm in Kotla and started to produce Phase IV compost with mushroom primordia. Then followed establishment of HAJDUK Mushroom Producers Group and the construction of a distribution center which is in charge of mushrooms distribution.
