According to UMDIS sources in Turkey, the consumption of mushrooms in this country tends to increase in the last year. Mushrooms are becoming more popular – mainly in the restaurant business. The reason for this, however, is not good for the Turkish economy. The rate of the Turkish lira is now extremely low, inflation is high, and more and more Turks are forced to save. Restaurants, cafes and bars provides a significant percentage of consumption in Turkey. Ukraine experiences the critical shortage of oyster mushrooms

Situation of oyster production shortage in summer was quite typical for the Ukrainian market. A year ago, in mid-July, according to UMDIS, oyster mushrooms on the Kyiv wholesale market costed EUR 1.9/kg, while champignon mushrooms costed Eur 1.1/kg. The supply of oyster mushrooms in the summer decreases more than the supply of champignons – that’s why the price difference is quite large in the summer – and in oysters are more expensive.

During the war Ukraine is turning from Phase 2 to Phase 3 compost

According to information received by UMDIS agency from compost producers of Ukraine, demand for Phase 3 compost has decreased slightly compared to the same period last year. At the same time, production of Phase 2 compost has more than halved due to reduced demand. As a result of these changes, already in the summer of 2022, the volume of champignon mushrooms produced on Phase 3 compost will exceed the volume of champignon mushrooms grown on Phase 2 compost.
