UMDIS Mushroom Agency course on organizing mushroom harvesting

On Wednesday 18.09.2024 UMDIS Mushroom Agency finished another course on organizing mushroom harvesting at champignon farms, in collaboration with Lina Turovska.

Participants from five countries had the opportunity to learn about the specifics of organizing champignon harvesting at the Laziuk farm in Poland.

The course was held with the support of Agro-Projects, Christiaens Group, and GrowTime companies.

During the program, we explored various structures of the harvesting department and the roles of employees. We focused on building effective communication between the harvesting department and other farm services. We calculated the correct number of pickers and supervisors, understood the role of the coordinator in the harvesting department, and identified the types of farms where this role is necessary. We also received recommendations on potential motivation systems for all employees in the harvesting department.

Naturally, we also covered the basics of proper harvesting techniques, allowing for maximum yields with minimal harvesting costs.

We truly enjoyed interacting with colleagues from other farms and the practical tasks related to mushroom harvesting techniques.

Two farms from Ukraine participated in the training, along with farms from Italy, Moldova, Poland, and Israel.

We are excited to announce that we already know the date and location of the next courses — they will take place in Poland from February 3 to 5, 2025, at the Fungus S.A. farm, located near Poznań.

The farm began its operations in 2004, and after its latest expansion in 2020, it grows 450 tons of mushrooms monthly, with 120 harvesters. This year, the farm was fully equipped with new automatic trolleys. The farm’s products are sold in the UK and EU markets.

Two years ago, the farm acquired a composting plant and now uses compost of its own production. As a bonus for course participants, we will organize a tour of the composting facility.

The number of spots is very limited, and half of them are already booked — so hurry up!

You can register via this link: https://umdis.org/harvestingcourses2025/

For those who register before November 1, 2024, there is a special discount! Additionally, we are offering a 10% discount for two or more participants from the same farm.

We also want to invite you and your cultivation technologists to the mushroom cultivation courses, where our expert Iurie Boiciuc will be teaching the basics of champignon cultivation at a successful working farm in Spain in the second half of February 2025.
