Farewell to Roman Stolper

On August 5, after illness, Roman Stolper passed away.
Roman was well known to most mushroom growers in Ukraine and to many specialists beyond its borders.

In the 2000s, he founded one of the first mushroom enterprises in Luhansk. In 2014, Roman moved to Kyiv, where he worked with UMDIS, Veres, and Svit Solomy — producing compost and consulting dozens of mushroom farms.

Roman played an active role in the development of UMDIS: he worked with us during the organization of the first conference in 2014 and founded the UMDIS mushroom growers’ shop, where he remains a co-owner to this day.

In 2024, Roman, together with Maksym Yenchenko, recorded an online course on composting, which is still available on the UMDIS website.

During the last year of his life, Roman worked in Ireland at the compost production facility of Walsh Mushrooms.

Sadly, Roman’s big plans for life were cut short by cancer.
We will remember him as a kind, warm-hearted person, a true expert, and someone always willing to help.

The farewell ceremony for Roman will take place next Wednesday, August 13, in Wexford, Ireland.
