About in between flush mushrooms. Written during UMDIS picking courses by Tomasz Stanisławski

On the farm of Tomasz Stanisławski in Western Poland they do most of processes according to a good plan. Picking of the first flash in one room always ends on Thursday – and in the other always on Friday. We teach such regularity at the picking courses organized by UMDIS agency.

The in between flush mushrooms are started to be picked on the 3rd or 4th day after the end of the picking of the first flash. On Tomasz’s farm, mushrooms are picked only by Poles. That is why such system is used here. Local pickers are glad that thanks to good organization – on many days they have a working day of 3-4 hours. And they are also glad that they are often free until 1 pm – they can spend time with their husbands and children. Of course, for foreign pickers who come to Poland work, a different system would be suitable.

Here there are days when pickers work until 7 pm – and there are days when up to 1 pm. At the same time, a pickers knows in a few months in advance what day until what hours they will work – they can plan their life.

For example, when we enter the farm with each of our groups on Monday afternoon at 2 pm – the lights are already off there, and neatly prepared gloves lay on the scales in the corridor – for tomorrow. It looks like the work is done today.

– We cut off the in between flush mushrooms before the second and before third flashes in different ways, – Tomasz and his wife Anela tell at the UMDIS picking courses. – Before the second flash, we leave in between flush mushrooms  because they hold the growth of the second flash. We are not afraid that this will stop the second flash`s growth, as some technologists are afraid. But this is how we form excellent generations, because the mushrooms of the second flash that are near to the in between flush mushrooms slow down in growth.

In fact, the motto of the farm of Tomasz Stanisławski is not to rush and care about the quality of the processes and the result.

– So, in the first pass after the first flash – on Monday, we cut only large and medium in between flush mushrooms. The little ones are still growing and holding the second flash, making generations. And the next day – on Tuesday – we already cut off all the in between flush mushrooms , – Tomasz shares

Often, some in between flush mushrooms  on the farm reach quite large sizes. They are cut and sold – when they have done their job of creating generations.

– But before the third flash, we do it differently. Cut off the in between flush mushrooms, even if they are small. The third flash is always weaker – and it’s just not worth holding it, – explains trainer Tomasz at the picking courses of the UMDIS agency.
