The mushrooms sector in Israel 2023 -24

The year 2023 in the Israeli mushrooms sector was characterized until the seventh of October, mainly by dealing with price increases of the production and energy costs. Same situation in other western countries.

Following the tragic events of October 7th, there was a crisis in the industry caused by two main factors.

The first factor was the closure of farms near the borders; In the north –  Champinion farm located in Zareit, (produces about 30% of the total production in Israel) and its compost manufacturing plant there ( Matzaee Hahava). In the south – Mogo farm located  in Kibbutz Saad.

The second factor was the departure of most of the foreign workers, mainly from Thailand.

Considering the challenges that awaits the mushroom industry in 2024 it will be very challenging, returning the volume of production to its level before the seventh of October while improving our efficiency due to the high cost of compost and casing soil.
