Mushroom prices in USA in May

UMDIS PARTNERS

This post is also available in: English Russian Polish

UMDIS Mushroom Agency made price monitoring of mushrooms in US this May.

We were at two supermarkets – in New York and Colorado in US.

Now on American mushroom market there is definitely no deficit of mushrooms. The supermarkets require the better possible quality – which makes many farms look for modernisation of farm, more heavy peat and best technology.

The prices

At one shop – New York

2.39 – 8 oz (227 gr) – 4.78 dollars/pound = 9.7 Euro/kg – white button mushrooms

2.79 – 8 oz (227 gr) – 5.58 dollars/pound = 11.32 Euro/kg – baby bella/brown mushrooms

2.99 – 8 oz (227 gr) – 5.98 dollars/pound = 12.14 Euro/kg – sliced baby bella

5.99 dollars /pound = 12.16 Euro/kg – Organic portabello mushrooms grown in New York

At another shop – Colorado

3.99 – 16 oz = pound (454 gr) = 8.1 Euro/kg – white button mushrooms

4.69 – 16 oz = pound (454 gr) = 9.52 Euro/kg – whole crimini mushrooms/brown mushrooms

Notably that all mushrooms are domestic. And it is mentioned. We can see label “product of USA”, or “made in America” or “grown in New York”. As we know – the competition between American and all other mushroom suppliers become stronger and stronger – American mushroom producers usually win in it.

Mushrooms in New York are much more expensive than in Colorado.

Brown mushrooms are 17% more expensive than white ones – in both states in both shops.

Notable that organic portabello mushrooms are nearly the same price as usual brown mushrooms 5.99 dollars /pound organic portabello vs 5.58 dollars/pound brown mushrooms.
