Why it is important to use supplements?

SuperChamp is located in Hoenzadriel – and that’s one of the epicentres of mushroom and substrate producers in the Netherlands. The idea to produce supplements came to Van Korlaar family more than 30 years ago. They were told by mushroom producers in the region that mushrooms give better yield and quality with supplements – so having their own farm Adelbert and Jeanne Van Korlaar decided to try. And thought – they can go further – not just use, but develop a technology of good supplement production.

Adelbert had a lot of experience with mixing and milling for bakeries, because he produced milled grain and flour in a windmill in the early days. But he produced also stockfeed for a while, that’s a combination of mixed raw materials, like soybean meal and Rapeseed meal.

“There were test locations with good results by using protein rich raw materials. Adelbert had a lot of experience with milling and mixing and the no how of protein rich raw materials. At that moment he was going to try his one mixture for in the mushroom cultivation. It was of course easy to test because there had their one mushroom farm. After a lot of tests and trials Adelbert became a expert in producing mushroom supplements with different kind of raw materials which increasing the yield” – tells Rowi Van Korlaar from SuperChamp.

Why it is crucial to use supplements?
1. The mushrooms are getting a whiter colour. For this SuperChamp uses the special premix.

2. The mushrooms have a better quality; the self-life of the mushroom is longer with SuperChamp supplements. Without supplements it is possible that the mushrooms need to “work harder” to get enough food (in a short time). If that’s happening it could have effect on the self-life and colour. Supplements help to avoid it.

3. Supplements forth the cultivation process to start and go faster, because of the extra nutrition sources.

4. There is always a yield increasing while using SuperChamp, but how much higher the yield becomes – is difficult to give an exact number. Because there are a lot of factors, for example, the quality of the substrate, the cultivation process, the watering and picking process of the mushrooms. So, your yield grows while you use supplements.

If you are a compost yard manager – your compost becomes more competitive with supplements because the mushrooms grown on it are better and the quantity is larger – that make your clients be satisfied.

SuperChamp is a relatively small company – with a lot of expertise and more than 30 years of experience. That is why they are very flexible in production and planning and can anticipate very quickly. That make them to be a very good, trusted supplier.

Did you know?

With supplements you can win one week of a cycle. That means 20% faster. It’s possible to do two flushes in 4 weeks with supplements. This is only workable by phase 3 substrate.
