Biggest Ukrainian mushroom farm Veres ceased production in July 2023

The mushroom and compost production of the Veres company in Kanev, Cherkasy region, ceased production in July 2023. Production processes have been stopped, the equipment has been preserved, the company reported. The further fate of the farm and compost production is unknown.

How to choose your substrate supplier for shiitake?

In Poland and Europe, shiitake is produced on two types of substrate, which differ not only by the country of origin – but also by the characteristics of the mushrooms that are produced on them. Shiitake in Europe are produced on European and Chinese substrates. In Spain, 60-80% of shiitake is produced on Chinese substrate. Because in Spain, ordinary people appreciate the quality of mushrooms. However, in the whole of Europe, for example in the Netherlands or Belgium, only 5-10% of shiitake is produced on Chinese logs.

Why there are lots of strains and how they appeared? A brief history of commercial mycelium

The fact that it is possible to copy mushroom strains without respecting the rights of their creators has inhibited the breeding of new mushroom strains for many years. In previous years, a number of attempts were made to protect the ownership rights of new strains without success. Only Amycel took up the challenge of protecting its original strains. This mainly applies to the Heilroom brown strain with quite a large effect. Work on the development of their strains was undertaken in France by Euromycel E-58 Premium and in Poland by Spyra F 1 GP.
