In which countries you know mushroom festivals take place? Definitely in Poland, in USA… and in Cyprus. UMDIS`s friend George Kyriakides, co-owner of the Kyriakides Mushrooms, only one in Cyprus commercial mushroom, farm recently sent us photos from the large mushroom festival they co-organized in Cyprus. On the weekend of 19th and 20th November, the 4th Mushroom Festival in Cyprus took place. The organizes are the community of Spilia, the Cyprus Chefs Association and Kyriakides Mushrooms. The festival took place in a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains.
“This was at the annual mushroom festival in Cyprus this past weekend! We had the largest serving of sauteed mushrooms ever made at 1210kg in a giant pan!”, – explains to UMDIS agency George Kyriakides.
The huge pan with sauteed mushrooms was placed along the road. This gigantic pan, with a diameter of 4 meters, accompanied by extra-long wooden spoons, was filled with 1200kg of mushrooms and over 40 talented chefs of the Cyprus Chefs Association worked tirelessly to create the dish.
As organizers claim that was the largest serving of sauteed mushrooms in the world. “The attempt to break the world record was successful, with the scale showing the final weight of 1210 kg! The Deputy Minister of Tourism, who honored us with his presence, certified the final weight and the world record!”, – tell us organizers.
During the two-day event, many food trucks were positioned along the road to offer visitors a great number of tantalizing mushroom dishes. The dishes present were: wild mushrooms in pitta bread, glazed shiitake bao bans, vegan mushroom burgers, vegan mushroom-sausages, gyros with oyster mushrooms and, mushroom soup.
