Module 1: Cultivation & Crop Protection (Days 1–3)

Day 1

Vegetation Management & Fruiting Initiation (Shock)

  • Water Balance: Moisture introduction targets at key growth stages to support cell elongation and flush density.
  • Irrigation & Climate: Coordination of air speed and relative humidity for controlled evaporation without crop stress.
  • Fruiting Initiation (Shock): Gradual reductions in temperature and CO2 levels to trigger generative growth (pinning).
  • Bed Preservation: Managing delta-T (air vs compost) to retain moisture in casing layer during climate transitions.
  • Wave Density Control: Smooth temperature reduction techniques to form consecutive generations of pins.
  • Pinheading Phase: Managing air speed, relative humidity, and fresh air supply as primordia develop into pea-sized mushrooms.
Day 2

Harvesting Climate, Flush Management & Crop Protection

  • Quality Climate During Picking: holding air speed, humidity and temperature stable while rooms are being harvested.
  • Evaporation Control: how to improve evaporation during picking — and why a dry cap keeps shelf life and price.
  • Climate Computer Settings: which set points to change, and what actually happens in the bed afterwards.
  • Inter-flush Management: sanitary shelf cleaning of stalk residues and dead pins; re-watering compost between flushes.
  • End of the Flush: preparation for watering — dosage and timing.
  • CO2 Regulation & Airing: heavy, uniform second and third flushes; keeping waves separated and knowing when a flush stops being profitable.
  • Disease Recognition: Trichoderma, cobweb (Cladobotryum), dry and wet bubble, and bacterial blotch on the bed.
  • Pest Monitoring: sciarid and phorid flies, mites — sticky-trap monitoring, action thresholds, and when treatment pays off.
  • Outbreak Containment: local treatment without spreading spores, traffic and zoning during the crop, end-of-crop cook-out.
Day 3

Spawning, Incubation & Peat Casing in Poland

  • Spawning Hygiene: Strict disinfection, formalin solutions, and even distribution of grain spawn (rye/millet).
  • Spawn Run Microclimate: Protection protocols against thermal stress and competitor weeds in cultivation rooms.
  • Phase III Incubation: Target parameters for aggressive mycelium growth and physical indicators of complete colonization.
  • Peat Casing Mixes: Blending high-quality sphagnum and black peat in Poland; calcium sources for structure stabilization.
  • pH Regulation: Sugar beet lime or chalk additions to establish stable alkaline environment (blocking Trichoderma).
  • Chemical Disinfection: Formalin treatment of casing soil to destroy hidden pathogens and wild spores.
  • CACing & Watering: Mixing Phase III compost (Cac'ing) to accelerate colonization; deep watering without clogging pores.
