Polish pickers work at a speed of 19-23 kg/h

We learned a lot of facts from the latest edition of the Polish magazine Pieczarki. UMDIS wants to share these facts with you.

Usually, Polish pickers work at a speed of 19-23 kg/h – if we are talking about a 4-5 cm mushroom for the fresh market. And the fee is usually 0.32 Euro gross.The electricity costs of Polish farms have increased some times recently due to the increase in tariffs. Based on the payment data of mushroom growers, it takes 0.44 kWh to produce 1 kg of mushrooms in Poland (together with the total use of electricity on the mushroom farm). In 2021, electricity in the cost price of the mushroom production in Poland was at the level of 5.5%.

The most common diseases among Polish mushroom growers are: verticillium, dactylium, trichoderma, brown blotch and viruses – however, Poles know how to deal with them quite effectively.

Mushroom prices in Poland are increasing. In the second quarter of 2022, compared to the second quarter of 2021, prices for champignons from processing establishments increased by a record 40% for class A champignons. From 1.02 to 1.28 Euro/kg was paid by processing establishments for class A champignons in the second quarter of 2022.

The average prices of class I champignon mushrooms on the fresh market in the second quarter were 1.65 Euro/kg – an increase of 22-23% compared to this period last year. Export companies that buy mushrooms from Poland for sale to the countries of Western and Southern Europe paid mushroom growers about 1.3 Euro/kg in the second quarter of 2022 (+16-17% compared to the previous year). Export companies that sell mushroom to Eastern Europe – offered about 1.27 Euro/kg (+13-14% compared to 2021). Wholesaler prices were at the level of 1.33 Euro/kg (+17-18% compared to 2021).

The forecasted production of mushrooms in Poland in 2022 will amount to 350 thousand tons (in 2021 it was 345 thousand tons). And the cultivation area in the country will increase to 250 thousand hectares.

The price of fresh mushrooms for export may increase by 1.8% compared to 2021 – i.e. to 1.72 Euros/kg.
